![]() The good news is Rockstar is reportedly trying to turn this around. You can read the full report by Kotaku here. Crunch is something all developers should avoid, as the actual human cost in terms of mental and physical health is not worth it. “When production ramps up and the game gets closer to launching, will overtime come with it? Will Rockstar’s employees then face the pressure of months of crunch in order to finish all of the ambitious work it takes to make a Rockstar game? “The changes have been good enough for me to stay and give them a chance but let’s see what happens down the road when the pressures of delivering a final product become reality,” said one developer.” Grand Theft Auto V and the connected world of GTA Online continue to drive revenue growth for developer Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive. Kotaku also briefly touches on the release plan for Grand Theft Auto 6, stating that the plan is “to start out with a moderately sized release (which, by Rockstar’s standards, would still be a large game) that is then expanded with regular updates over time, which may help mitigate stress and crunch.” ![]() It’s important to note that Rockstar Games is a studio known for taking its time with releases, not necessarily in terms of being unproductive – as proven by their previously irresponsible crunch culture – but in terms of release schedules. Recently, fans of the franchise have been swarming Rockstar social media asking for them to tease or release Grand Theft Auto 6, however the game is still “early in development” according to Kotaku and we’ve always come to expect that 6 is still quite a few years away now. While initial reports and rumors suggested that a sequel to 2006’s Bully would be the next project from the developer, it seems that has been either cancelled or indefinitely put on the shelf while Rockstar goes to work on the next Grand Theft Auto game.
